On March 19, this FREE webinar will include a discussion of ASCE/SEI 41 foundational principles, performance objectives, analysis procedures, and acceptance criteria. First published in 2006, ASCE/SEI 41, Seismic Evaluation and Retrofit of Existing Buildings, have even since become the consensus U.S. national standard for seismic evaluation and retrofitting. In the case of new buildings, however, challenges may be found by those who are unfamiliar with its procedures. To assist users, the Applied Technology Council, together with other partners, published an example application guide for ASCE/SEI 41, referred to as the FEMA P-2006 document, which provides helpful guidance on the interpretation and the use of these standards through design examples that cover the most relevant topics.

The webinar is meant for practicing engineers who are new to ASCE/SEI 41, as well as those who have used the standard and need a refresh on the main features. Building officials, architects, and others who interact with these standards are also welcome to attend.

This online event will be held by Bret Lizundia, SE, experienced structural engineer and principal at Rutherford + Chekene in San Francisco (USA). Throughout his career, for more than 30 years now, he has been dealing with topics such as structural design of new buildings, seismic evaluation and rehabilitation of existing buildings, peer review and plan checking, as well as guideline development and applied research.
