A UKGBC-member workshop about the question: is a clear definition for Net Zero Infrastructure required, and if so, what’s the most suitable approach and key challenges.

The UK government has legislated to cut greenhouse gas emissions to net-zero by 2050. Infrastructures plan foreseen is >£600bn over the next decade, and decarbonisation of the infrastructure sector will be key in reaching this target. In the context of Covid-19 calls for a ‘green recovery’ have become vital.

Recent studies show that greater clarity is required in defining and delivering an agreed net zero infrastructure target, which organisations and projects can work to achieve. Vital to this challenge is whether a clear and viable definition of net zero across the infrastructure industry has currently been defined. This workshop seeks to explore whether there is a need for such a definition, and if so, how best can this be approached, what the key challenges are and who are the key stakeholders that need to be involved.

This workshop is part of a series of work packages aimed to help inform industry and Government on how to deliver infrastructure in line with the net-zero 2050 target.
